Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy (PEACE) Project
Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC) in collaboration with Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA) is implementing a Promoting Equitable Access to Clean Energy Project in Salima District and peri-urban areas of Lilongwe and Blantyre Districts with support from the European Union (EU) and Oxfam. The project aims to ensure that citizens and civil society organizations (CSOs) are better informed and empowered to advocate for their right to energy and for the adoption of efficient and fair energy distribution systems and regulations in Malawi. Ultimately, the project will contribute to a greener and more resilient economic transformation in Malawi by strengthening an enabling environment for equitable access to clean energy.
The action is aligned to the priorities of Malawi national planning frameworks such as the National Energy Policy (2018) (Priority I: Electricity), National Climate Change Management Policy (2016) (policy priority 3.2: climate change mitigation), and Malawi Vision 2063 (pillar II, under Investment in Power Generation and Access). In addition, the action is aligned with the EU Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society, complementing and enhancing the EU’s MIP for Malawi first priority area. Globally, the action is aligned to SDG 7- Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
