Background
The Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC) is an umbrella body of Civil Society Organizations working in Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management in Malawi. The Network’s mission is to coordinate civil society organisations and influence a desired change in climate change and disaster risk management-related policies, practices and attitudes through research, advocacy, model projects, networking and capacity building, with an overall objective of building community resilience to the impacts of climate change. CISONECC comprises of national and international NGOs, other networks, alliances and research institutions, with a secretariat based in Lilongwe. Reporting: Communication and Advocacy Manager
Role Purpose
CISONECC is seeking a proactive and creative Communication Intern to support the delivery of the network’s communication strategy. The intern will assist in content creation, public relations activities, social media management, event coordination, and general communications support to amplify the network's climate change initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the creation and dissemination of communication materials (e.g., newsletters, press releases, reports, success stories).
- Manage and update CISONECC’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, etc.).
- Assist in the planning and execution of media engagements, campaigns, and public events.
- Maintain the organization's photo and video library, ensuring proper cataloguing.
- Design simple graphics and promotional materials using tools like Canva or equivalent.
- Draft stories and articles that highlight the impact of CISONECC’s work.
- Support media monitoring and maintain a database of media contacts.
- Perform any other duties related to communication as assigned.
Personal Attributes
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in Microsoft Office, Excel, and accounting software (preferably QuickBooks).
- General understanding of procurement policies and procedures.
- Proactive, confident, and enthusiastic self-starter.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
Qualification and Experience
- A Diploma or Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills (both in English and Chichewa).
- Basic knowledge of social media management and content creation.
- Ability to use design tools (e.g., Adobe pack) is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with website management (WordPress or similar) is an asset.
- Interest in climate change, environmental issues, and sustainable development.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic team.
