Background
The Civil Society Network on Climate Change (CISONECC) is an umbrella body of Civil Society Organizations working in Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management in Malawi. The Network’s mission is to coordinate civil society organisations and influence a desired change in climate change and disaster risk management-related policies, practices, and attitudes through research, advocacy, model projects, networking, and capacity building, with an overall objective of building community resilience to the impacts of climate change. CISONECC comprises national and international NGOs, other networks, alliances, and research institutions, with a secretariat based in Lilongwe.
CISONECC is intending to recruit a Finance Intern.
Position: Finance Intern
Reporting: Finance and Administration Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in budgeting and financial planning for various projects and for the organization.
- Ensure supporting documents are in place to support finance officers in preparing project financial reports.
- Assist in timely capture and reporting of financial data into QuickBooks.
- Assist in organizing RFQs, sourcing quotations, and managing invoices for procurements.
- Assist in organizing procurement documentation in liaison with the internal procurement committee chairperson.
- Support in updating and reporting on the implementation of the procurement plan.
- Maintain bookkeeping and update all ledgers for the network and projects.
- Update the cashbook and perform bank reconciliation for project accounts.
- Prepare cheques, payment vouchers, and process payments.
- Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register.
- Ensure all payments are properly liquidated.
- Ensure proper filing of all financial transaction documents.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance and Administration Manager.
Personal Attributes
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in Microsoft Office, Excel, and accounting software (preferably QuickBooks).
- General understanding of procurement policies and procedures.
- Proactive, confident, and enthusiastic self-starter.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or related qualifications.
- Knowledge and experience in budgeting, procurement, and financial management for projects or institutions.
